Technical compatibility question: 24V 10mm RGBCCT COB LED strip with WS2811 and MiBoxer SPI controllers

Dear MiBoxer Technical Support Team,

I am planning a project using a high-density 24V addressable RGBCCT COB LED strip and MiBoxer control equipment.

I would like to ask your engineers to confirm compatibility at the protocol/IC level.

The exact LED strip I am considering has been confirmed by the manufacturer with the following specifications:

  • IC: WS2811

  • Voltage: DC24V

  • 840 LEDs/m

  • PCB width: 10mm

  • 12 WS2811 ICs/m

  • Cutting interval: 83.33mm

  • Power: 26W/m

  • RGB+CCT / RGBCW

  • Addressable / digital SPI strip

  • The manufacturer confirms that this is a WS2811-based RGB+CCT/RGBCW implementation.

MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION

CAN THIS EXACT WS2811-BASED RGB+CCT/RGBCW STRIP BE CONTROLLED CORRECTLY BY ANY OF THE FOLLOWING MIBOXER SPI CONTROLLERS?

  1. SPIR5

  2. SPIB5

  3. SPIW5

  4. SPIW5-4

  5. SPI-WL4

For EACH controller, please provide one of these answers:

  • COMPATIBLE

  • NOT COMPATIBLE

  • NOT TESTED

Please check RGB+CCT / RGBCW operation specifically, not only RGB operation.

WS2811 RGB+CCT ARCHITECTURE

There is an important technical point.

WS2811 itself is a 3-channel IC. Therefore, I understand that some addressable RGB+CCT strips use multiple WS2811 ICs to implement the five RGB+CCT channels.

CAN YOU CONFIRM WHETHER YOUR CONTROLLERS SUPPORT THIS TYPE OF DUAL-WS2811 RGB+CCT ARCHITECTURE?

If yes:

  • How should the MiBoxer controller interpret the two WS2811 ICs?

  • Does one IC control RGB and the second IC control WW/CW?

  • Does MiBoxer treat the two ICs as one logical RGB+CCT pixel?

  • Is any special IC/protocol setting required?

  • Is this configuration supported directly by the controller firmware?

WE NEED RGB + WW + CW TO WORK AS FIVE INDEPENDENT CHANNELS. IT IS NOT SUFFICIENT IF THE CONTROLLER ONLY RECOGNIZES THE STRIP AS RGB.

IC / PROTOCOL SETTINGS

WHICH EXACT IC/PROTOCOL SETTING SHOULD BE SELECTED IN THE MIBOXER CONTROLLER FOR THIS STRIP?

Is it simply:

WS2811

or is there a specific RGB+CCT / RGBCW / dual-IC setting?

If there is a specific firmware version or IC configuration required, please provide it.

12 ICs/m and 83.33mm pixel structure

The manufacturer specifies:

12 ICs/m + 83.33mm cutting interval.

CAN YOU CONFIRM HOW MIBOXER INTERPRETS THIS STRUCTURE?

In particular:

  • How many logical RGB+CCT pixels/m are supported?

  • Are two WS2811 ICs used for one RGB+CCT pixel?

  • Does the controller maintain correct addressing through the entire strip?

  • Can dynamic effects run continuously across the entire strip?

10-meter installation

My initial installation will be 10 meters.

The strip is rated at:

26W/m × 10m = approximately 260W / 10.8A at 24V.

The strip will have separate power injection, rather than forcing the entire 10m load through the controller output.

CAN YOUR ENGINEERS CONFIRM THE CORRECT POWER/DATA WIRING FOR A 10-METER INSTALLATION WITH THIS STRIP?

In particular:

  • Should power be injected at multiple points?

  • Should the controller carry only the data signal while the 24V power is distributed separately?

  • Are there any limitations on the maximum addressable length?

B9 / B9-W compatibility

I also intend to use a MiBoxer B9 / B9-W wall panel.

WHICH OF THE FIVE CONTROLLERS ABOVE CAN BE PAIRED DIRECTLY WITH THE B9/B9-W AND CONTROL THIS WS2811 RGB+CCT STRIP THROUGH THE PANEL?

Please distinguish between:

  • controller supports the strip;

  • controller supports B9/B9-W;

  • controller supports both simultaneously.

Final question

IF NONE OF THESE FIVE CONTROLLERS CURRENTLY SUPPORT THIS EXACT WS2811 RGB+CCT CONFIGURATION, DOES MIBOXER HAVE ANOTHER CURRENT OR SPECIAL SPI CONTROLLER/ FIRMWARE THAT CAN SUPPORT IT?

If possible, please ask your engineering department to verify this technically, rather than relying only on the general product description.

I am asking because the project is not a one-off purchase: the initial requirement is 10 meters, and if compatibility is confirmed and the system works correctly, I may purchase 50 meters or more.

Thank you in advance for a precise technical answer.

Best regards,
Kais.

Hello, customer, all MiBoxer SPI controllers are compatible with LED strips using the WS2811 chip. However, our controllers support 5‑channel control in a different way. They do not work with the strip architecture where one chip handles RGB and a second chip handles warm‑white / cool‑white. Therefore, our SPI controllers cannot be used with this specific LED strip, please advised, thanks.
