I have a lot of Hue lights and smart plugs and never used ‘third party’ stuff because those accessories aren’t exposed to Apple Homekit without a workaround. Since the introduction of Matter also third party stuff is exposed to Homekit and I just installed 2 MiBoxer led controllers for a part of my garden lightning.
It was a struggle to pair them to the Hue bridge. The MiBoxer controllers are built in a wooden enclosure in my garden, only a few meters away form the nearest Hue (GU10 lights. I always thought that each Hue light acts as a Zigbee repeater on its own, but I couldn’t pair the MiBoxer controllers.
Only when I brought the Hue Bridge closer by with a long network cable I was able to pair the MiBoxer controllers with the bridge. Now the bridge is back at its original place, I again lost contact with the MiBoxer controllers and ‘no reaction’ is shown in Apple Home. The Hue bridges are approx. 7 meters away from the led controllers. The inner walls of my house are wood and plasterboard and their is only glass and no brick walls in between them.
Obviously the GU10 leds don’t act a range extender for Zigbee, may they only repeat the signal for other Hue lights, but definitely not for third party Zigbee devices… ![]()
Since I can’t move my Hue Bridge closer to these controllers, what can I do with range extenders or Zigbee repeaters?? Anyone has experience with this? I see a lot of stuff I could easily hide somewhere in the middle of the controllers and the Hue bridge, but I don’t know if it will work in my case! Any help is appreciated!!
